SUMMARY:

Abner Spencer, believed to be a son of Phineas and Martha (Stevens) Spencer. Their Abner was born at Haddam, Connecticut 30 August, 1738. He married twice, the second wife is thought to be Deborah Clark. Abner served in the Revolution from Dutchess County and was of Granville by 1790. He had the following children: Benjamin, Elijah, John, Jacob, Isaac, Enos, Abram, David, Dolly, and Lucinda, order unknown.

Jeremiah Spencer, unproven son of Phineas & Marhta (Stevens) Spencer. He was born possibly in New York State about 1749, about 1749, about the time Phineas removed to Spencertown, Columbia County, New York, and died at Granville between 1825 and 1830. They lived in the Lee district of Granville. He married Hannah, surname unknown. She died at Granville 1833. They had nine children from 1775 to 1801: Jeremiah Jr., Martin, Sarah, John, Martha, Chloe, Phoebe, Polly, and Eunice.

Capt. Phineas Spencer, born about 1779 and died at Granville 1853. He is believed to be a grandson of Phineas & Martha (Stevens) Spencer, son of Abner, Jeremiah, or of an unknown brother of either. He had settled in Washington County by 1814. Phineas and Elcy had nine children: Caroline, Sidney, Fayette, Lyman, Laura, Jane, Ann, Amanda, Adeline, Harriet, Chloe, and Claudius.

Alexander Spencer, born about 1784 and died at Whitehall, NY 1838, buried in North Granville. He is believed to be a grandson of Phineas & Martha (Stevens) Spencer, son of Abner, Jeremiah, or of an unknown brother of either. He owned land in Whitehall on Granville Road. Children: Alexander J., Caroline, and Harriet.

Jeremiah Spencer 2nd and Thankful Hinckley are listed in the 1790 Granville census. He was born in East Haddam about 1748/9 and died at Granville 1796. He is here referred to as Jeremiah 2nd to differentiate him from Jeremiah Sr. Jeremiah and Thankful lived in the Farquhar Patent area of Granville (near Lilly Pond Road and Route 149). The widow removed to Marcellus, Onondaga County. Children: Charlotte, Abigail, Ebenezer, Hubbard, Benjamin, Asa, Sally, Mary, Lavina, and William.
